3 years getting here (real quick i am)

im steve
i started with win 3.1 used all the 9x up to WinMe
but linux was something else
distro after distro
RH 6.1 to 8
Suse 8.1
i could not get on the net
install from linux to windows and back again
finally had to admit i know windows but not linux
so i got hold of the debian linux bible
read it cover to cover
finally found out that the modems i was using would not work with linux
pci & usb (hard to own up but i did not know)
that these were winmodems

after saving, working over time i managed to get a pci network card & a ethernet modem
i had then heard about an easier version of linux (xandros)
(please no knocks, it works for me)
witch i got as well, at last
after installing hardware & software ON line with LINUX

that was about 6 months ago
i have not looked back
i have put into storage about 100 cd,s
with about 1000+ win programs
including 5 full win OS's

if i can do it i hope others can
its been a hard road but
no more windows any more
linux, the new learning curve

sorry its a bit long winded
but im told its good to talk

my system
msi 6382 matx
xp1700 amd
1024 mb ddr 266
2x30Gb maxter 7200
ati 8500 128mb ddr
ac97 2x1 speakers
d-link 550tx pci card
asr8100 ethernet modem
cd burner + cd rom
running Xandros Debian/gnu/linux

thats about it, cheers.

Better late than never.

Watch that memory size. Some kernels don't like that by default. Mandrake 9.1 being one of them.
