This thread is to discuss the article titled: Mandrake and Compaq Presario Notebook

I Ran Mandrake 9.2 almost 6 Months on old Presario 1250 notebook worked fine, but slow.
Only Problems was getting sound to work correct because of JBL Chipset.

with mandrake 10 doesn't need to recompile for presario 7xx
 

solution faster than recompile the kernel

just install ACPI-x.x.x and ACPID-x.x.x from install rpm
add NOLAPIC in the boot option (lilo.conf) of the kernel image and
remove any ACPI=off, ACPI=ht or ACPI=on.
check that acpi service is loaded
in
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
add those lines at the end :
modprobe ac
modprobe battery
modprobe fan
modprobe thermal
modprobe processor
