ACLs: Extended file-permissions

A new la entry has been added:

ACLs: Extended file-permissions

Quote:
In Windows they are used for a long time already, but most Linux-users probably don't even know that their system supports them too. Access Control Lists (ACLs) extend the regular permissions we all know with the possibility to give permissions for specific users/groups.

With a little example I want to show how to use ACLs in Linux.

Thumbs up

Thank you for your succinct explanation of ACL's.

I came here (via a search) as I discovered during some housekeeping of my file system, I had a file with the + appended to the permissions. I did a lot of searching and could not find what this meant (a lot of guides and how-tos did not mention this field).

As a relative newbie I have learnt a lot from your discussion.

Once again, many thanks
