If you take a look at this Wikipedia summary, the version 7 of that router has changed chipsets to Atheros from Broadcom. Since the publicly available firmware projects were all focused on the Broadcom chipset, it is highly unlikely any of them will work on the version 7 router. You might try looking in the DD-WRT forum and see if anyone knows of an alternative for the version 7.

wrt54g v7

consider openwrt's firmware,but...
download the source,
download the sdk
try to play with adding atheros's madwifi to the source
... wish you luck :)
or,
try to return the router to the seller and get youself a wrt54GL ;)
