its really strange and i have no idea why, but whe i open a "shell","xterm" or "terminal comand line", what ever u want to called, and put "ifconfig", has a root, always hapend the same:
Code:
druida@druida druida $ su -
Password:
druida root # ifconfig
it doesn't hapend anything! u can wait as long as you want, you can hit enter or any other thing, and nothing hapend!, and it doesnt give u the "druida root #" again!!!!
why do u think this hapend??, is it a bug or what?, i made something rong??

ndiswrapper / Linksys WPC11

Newbie to Linux... found the step-by-step ndiswrapper and RTL8180 post very helpful.

However, my Linksys WPC11 (v4) card still isn't working - wlan0 seems to be OK but when I try to use iwconfig to set ESSID etc, none of it is set properly.

Looking in dmesg there are about 30 errors identical:

__alloc_pages: 0-order allocation failed (gtp=0x21/0)
ndiswrapper (NdisMAllocateSharedMemory:1043): Failed to allocate DMA coherent memory. Windows driver requested 2400 bytes of un-cached memory.

Am I just plain out of RAM? (Only have 64MB)
Or is there something else going on?

Set basic rates basicrates {bit0 = 1Mbps, bit1 = 2Mbps, bit2 = 5.5Mbps, bit3 = 11 Mbps}
Set operational rates oprates {bit0 = 1Mbps, bit1 = 2Mbps, bit2 = 5.5Mbps, bit3 = 11 Mbps}

lol, u are still using the old driver from realtek
anyway, u don't need to tell the card to operate at varies speed.
it will decide it for itself by testin with ur ap, access point
by sayin saving a problem doesn't help at all
if u want to do the hard way, go to the site in my sign might be help
also, i u want to go with the easier way, there is a step-by-step instruction for u too!
so i hope u can get it workin right away

Thx for this really nice thread.

Got my WPC11 working within 10 Minutes.

Kernel: 2.6.10
Ndiswrapper: 1.1
XP-Driver: 1.37

Now i have a little problem.
i want to use WPA encryption inside my wireless network.

so i downloaded wpa supplicant v0.38.
the authentication works, but when wpa-supp tries to insert the key into the ndiswrapper driver i got an error.

"Failed to set PTK to the driver"

But ndiswrapper supports wpa-supp.

does someone have an idea?

Hello;

I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm trying out different types of linux; Fedora and Mandrake 10.1; I have a wpc11 v.4 card also...I tried to find Linux compatable cards; but even ebay doesn't have any! I'm trying a file called Linux-wlan-ng-0.2.1-pre26. I've very new; working around command line is getting easier but still confusing; I would like to get a new card or find a configuration for the Linksys wpc11 v.4 card...any suggestions are welcome. I dumped Windows after they started their new mandate of validating again. Thank you for any help that can be provided.

haha another one with the same chipset as my wifi card!!!!
welcome to the linux world
btw, ur card is compatible with linux
i would say getting that card workin in linux is the most fun thing i ever done
i used ndiswrapper which is like a emulator for window's driver
and it uses window's driver to operate ur card
if u want to a step by step tutorial
i've written one at 404.bizhat.com
if u are still havin problem
then just email me or something

also just to correct u, ebay have tons of cards that's compatible with linux
but they just don't claim so. u have to search for the answer like always for linux ...

After a long journey to get this card to work, I seem to have hit a wall. I am running slackware 10.2 kernel version 2.6.15.2 with ndiswrapper 1.8 and I just can't seem to configure the wireless device. I have to set parameter 'hangcheck_interval=-1' to prevent the device from resetting, but still iwconfig ignores any attempt to configure wlan0! I've tried modifying '10EC:8180.5.conf' to the settings I desire, but they still do not hold. Always 'ESSIDff/any', Access Point: 00: .. :00

My wireless router has no encryption, just mac security. There are no error messages. Not even a warning in dmesg.

Any help?

This may not be the answer you want, but must you use Slacware ?
Both Kanotix and Kubuntu recognize this card out of the box
without having to use Ndiswrapper or anything esoteric.
That's what I have used on my Toshiba laptop.

On a stranger note, if I set the card to ad-hoc mode, the device is detected by other network devices in the vicinity as it should be, but the card is still blind!
