Smile WMP54G ndiswrapper enable to ping

I just bought a WMP54G wireless card and a WRT54G ROUTER.
Here is my setup

Mandrake 9.1 kernel 2.4.21-0.013mdk
I install ndiswrapper and follow all the instruction with the .inf who came on the linksys CD I also try the same with Compaq drivers. After the installation, the nic is able to get an IP adress (with dhcp active on the router) but I cannot ping the network.

Here is what I do

[root@localhost ndiswrapper]#ndiswrapper -i (inf on cd or Compaq inf bcmw15a.inf)
the following output is using the compaq driver bcmw15a.inf
ndiswrapper -l
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5a hardware present,fuzzy

[root@localhost ndiswrapper]# modprobe ndiswrapper

[root@localhost ndiswrapper]#lsmod |grep ndis
ndiswrapper 82840 1
usbcore 72992 1 [ndiswrapper usb-uhci]

more var/log/messages

Please post the results of issuing the 'ifconfig' command (by itself) *after* you issue the 'ifdown eth0' command, as well as the results of the 'iwconfig' command.

The output from 'route -n' looks correct after you added that gateway.

Just out of curiosity, why do you start with both devices enabled?

Disable both devices in your configuration and try bringing up just the wireless interface. My feeling is that having them both enabled may be causing the problem. If you are using dhcp on your router, then do your 'iwconfig', 'ifconfig wlan0', followed by 'dhcpcd wlan0'.

Let's see if that helps.

Edit: If it helps, here is a snippet of a script I use to bring up my wireless connection. This assumes that no network interfaces are already enabled, and that your are using dhcp.

Code:
echo Configuring wlan0 ..
iwconfig wlan0 essid "noho" mode managed

echo Bringing up wlan0 ...
ifconfig wlan0 up

echo Getting DHCP settings ...
dhcpcd wlan0

echo Done.

dhcpcd (same problem with ping)

I kept my eth0 to be able to connect to my router and/or internet during the setup. When my wlan0 will be working, I will remove my eth0 card from my computer

I try 2 ways :

1- I try to remove my eth0 from my computer... but i got exactly the same
2- I try your solution , ifdown eth0 and wlan0 and after iwconfig, ifconfig wlan0 and dhcpcd. There is no changes.

To try your solution, i installed dhcpcd because this tools was not installed.

I got this message in my var/log/messages

Note:
If this can help, when I installed my wmp54G card mandrake as detected the card at boot time.
Here is the log for the boot

Aug 29 11:28:15 localhost network: Bringing up interface eth0: succeeded
Aug 29 11:28:15 localhost network: Bringing up interface wlan0: succeeded

But a have to do the config manually like I did in the first step to saw my wlan0 in iwconfig and ifconfig.

----------- an other note , after enabling the wlan 0 I got this message
Aug 29 11:36:39 localhost kernel: Shorewall:INPUT:REJECT:IN=wlan0 OUT= MAC=00:0c:41:62:3a:a6:00:0f:66:36:6d:ff:08:00 SRC=192.168.247.1 DST=192.168.247.101 LEN=84 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=64 ID=6114 PROTO=ICMP TYPE=0 CODE=0 ID=10508 SEQ=1

Ok. I forgot you were on Mandrake ...

First, go to the networking section of Mandrake Control Center, and see if you can configure your wireless card there. Since it is dectecting your wireless card, you should be able to configure it there as a networking device.

Second, it looks like shorewall (firewall) doesn't recognize your wireless card's ip, so it's blocking any communication between your wireless card and your router. Look for the firewall section of Mandrake Control Center and see if you can configure to accept your wireless card's IP. I wish I could be more specific, but it has been quite a while since I worked with Mandrake / shorewall.

Something quick and dirty you can try if you can't configure firewall just yet ... disable both your ethernet and your wireless interfaces. Go to your router's dhcp clients table and release all the addresses. Then activate your wireless device. It should grab the first available IP, which is 192.168.247.100. Since your firewall already trusts that IP, you should be able to get through it (unless shorewall filters on MAC address as well).

Hope that helps.

Thumbs up WMP54G Working !!!

First Thanks your for your help, I really apreciated !

Here is the step that I do
1- In Mandrake Control Center I configure my BCM94306 NIC (by following the easy steps)
2- Always in Mandrake ControlCenter -> Security Tabs I setup DrakFirewall to allow Everything (no firewall) to make
sure there is no problem with thoses rules
3- In NetConf I disabled my eth0 an enable my wlan0
4- I reboot to see if my eth0 are disabled and my wlan0 are enabled ( everything is ok, at boot I only saw wlan0)

and when i take a look at my var/log/message i saw that there is no module for my wlan0

5 - I just insert the module modprobe ndiswrapper

and that it I got my IP adress with dhcp and I am now ABLE to ping my router and get my WMP54G WORKING !!!!!

6- last step automate the system by typing ndiswrapper -m to include ndiswrapper alias in /etc/modules.conf

Thanks again for your help

Now I will try to activate the WEP encryption !
