Unhappy wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device


Hi,

I am trying to make my Ubuntu 9 as an access point,with help of an USB Wireless Adapter (TP-LINK )TL-WN321G and madwifi.

iwconfig returned

lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:""
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
Tx-Power=18 dBm
Retry min limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thr=2352 B
Power Managementff
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
pan0 no wireless extensions.

but when tried with
"sudo wlanconfig wlan0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode ap"
i got an error "wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device"

addtinal info :
uname -r is "2.6.28-17-generic'.. please help.

Looking at your iwconfig, it looks like here is no such device as "wifi0". That was the error given by wlanconfig. Try using wmaster0 instead of wifi0.

Also, since wlan0 is already in use, you need to specify wlan1 instead of wlan0

Code:
sudo wlanconfig wlan1 create wlandev wmaster0 wlanmode ap
