wlan - FC13 fast, FC14 slow

I have both FC13 and FC14 in grub, and they are set up almost identically. FC14's wireless is about 1/10 the speed of FC13, and everything else I know of is fairly equal. When I go to speedtest.net and run a test with FC13, I get about 5-6mb/sec. When I do the same with FC14, I get about .6-.7mb/sec. It's consistently this way, all with the laptop running under the same circumstances.

I've searched forums and other online info to no avail (maybe because I can't find good search terms). I'm not sure how to drill down to the source of the problem.

ASUS R1F laptop, Core2 Duo (Centrino Duo). Gnome desktop connected to a CentOS box (via a Access Point) acting as the gateway. iwconfig on FC14 reports "Bit Rate=54 Mb/s". FC14 is up to date including the kernel (as far as yum is concerned), and has been slow from the first install (shortly after FC14 came out).

It's somewhat difficult to compare some items from the two installs because I can't run them at the same time, but I can certainly run specific commands or look at files if only I knew what to look at.

Thanks for any guidance!

Could it be due to a change in the kernel module for the wireless card? I'd try installing the F13 kernel in F14.

That sounds fairly difficult. I'm not sure how I would go about installing a kernel outside of yum, especially one for a previous version.

I've upgraded the kernel a number of times in Fedora 14, and I've had the same issue from the beginning. I'd think the issue would be related to a configuration or something that changed from Fedora 13.

If I don't get other suggestions, I'll see what I can do about getting a Fedora 13 kernel running (maybe 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.i686 - the one that's currently doing well for me when I boot Fedora 13).

Thanks!

I wonder if the problem is in NetworkManager?

I'm more inclined to go with the kernel guess, but as Gnome and its tools have been upgraded, it's possibly worth checking.

I have an old page about taking NetworkManager out of the equation, if you're not familiar with the process. The page is more about doing it to troubleshoot wireless connections, but the process is probably the same.

I'd do it in two or three steps:
1. download an appropriate kernel from http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packages
2. sudo rpm -ivh --oldpackage <downloaded kernel>
3. (may be needed) Edit /boot/grub/grub.conf

Then reboot into the new kernel
