Wireless works in Debian 2.2.18 kernel, but not in 2.4.25 kernel
Hi.
I'm running Debian woody on an Apple Powerbook G3 (wallstreet) and, when using the kernel that comes with the Debian install, 2.2.18, I attempt to use my Orinoco Silver, every thing works fine. Pcmcia_core, ds and i82065 are insmodded, as well as hermes, orinoco and orinoco_cs when I insert the card. Iwconfig sees eth1, I'm able to ping successfully.
Anyways, after compiling benh's 2.4.25 kernel with pcmcia support and the orinoco and hermes drivers, I get pcmcia_core and the card driver working, along with ds and yenta_socket (But no i82065, is this a problem?). I can cardctl ident and it successfully identifies the card, like with the 2.2.18 kernel. Except, I have no internet access with the same settings as my working 2.2.18 configs (wireless.conf, network.conf, resolv.conf, etc....)
Anyone have any ideas? This is driving me nuts.
Thanks.
I couldnt google on i82065, but that may be the issue in that not loading, I would find "i82065" under /lib/modules/<version>
find /lib/modules -name i82065* -print
Driver modules installed in the older kernel will not automatically be available to the newer kernel, you will have to rebuild them in the newer kernel.
are you able to find the orinoco and hermes drivers under
/usr/linux-<version> for the newer kernel? If so then check the versions of the code should be in the comments of the .c files.
Sorry, I made a spelling error. Not i82065, but i82365.
Anyways, I had indeed rebuilt the modules for the new kernel.
When I try and insmod i82065, I get:
/lib/modules/2.4.25-benh/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/i82365.o: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Also, I am able to find the i82365 drivers (as indicated above in the path) in /lib/modules/.
Well, I recompiled the kernel without pcmcia support and then compiled pcmcia-cs with the new kernel's source and yenta_socket isn't being used anymore and i82365 is instead.
However, like before, I am unable to ping anything, and ifconfig shows (when I used dhcp in the new kernel) no IP, gateway, anything, even though with the same configs in the old kernel, everything is working fine.
