Wireless Usb woes using the WLAN drivers

I have a linksys WUSB11 device. The problem I am having is that when I try to run 'wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable'
it says 'wlanctl-ng: device does not exist' not sure if that is the word for word device does not exist but that is what it is telling me. If someone could help me along in what the problem is or what the resolution is that would be very helpful. By the way I am using Mandrake 8.2 and it recognizes that I have a usb device plugged in.

i also get the error message of device not being found (wlan0) after running command: wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable

maybe we can work together through posts on this board.

slackware 8.1 linux-2.4.18
siemens speedstream wireless usb adapter 1022

i'm using linux-wlan-ng-0.1.16-pre7 to configure my connection.

There's a difference between the linksys USB adapters, some of them are indeed prism2 chipsets, some are not!!! Yet the info Linksys ships still claims that these devices will work with the linux-wlan drivers. As I remember it, WUSB11 ver2.5 is a prism2 chipset card while the 2.7 is something else entirely. Post back if you don't actually have a 2.5
