Trying checking out the HCL on this website for an overview of cards tested by members under Linux and how to configure them. ndiswrapper is a module that allows you load in standard Windows XP drivers and utilise a wireless card. Check out
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/ for a list of cards + chipsets that work with it. There are alternative modules + drivers to ndiswrapper, depending on which card you go with. Is standard wireless access points you're wanting to connect into, or you meaning cingular GPRS carrier system, as they're different cards entirely I think.
