Wireless not working.. Intel Centrino Wifi/Wimax 6050 Series - Slackware 13.1
 
I'm pretty much a linux newbie. I've reinstalled Slackware 4 times today because of things I've messed up along my way, after upgrading the linux kernel to 2.6 I've had issues with getting back to desktop, so I'm on a clean slate right now with the exception of installing wicd. I need help since wireless is not working.. My wireless worked fine out of the box with Ubuntu, so I don't understand why it is not working now...

Using Slackware 13.1, Kernel 2.6.33.4

I think this is a problem that the 6050 chipset is probably newer than Slackware 13.1. If you look at your dmesg output:

The card is looking for a firmware file that doesn't exist.

Now if you head to your favorite Slackware-current repository, you'll see in the n directory that there are newer iwlwifi firmware files (in particular iwlwifi-6xxx-ucode). Normally it is a phenomenally bad idea to mix packages from -current into a stable release, but I suspect that adding a firmware package should be safe.

Thankyou, that actually makes sense. I'm trying intellinuxwireless.org but I guess their site is down.
