Wireless networks not detected; Fedora 15, Gnome 3

The power went out and then came back on. Restarted the cable modem and wireless router. Now, Fedora 15/Gnome 3 network manager applet won't detect wireless networks. On the Network dialog, wireless is on, but unavailable; a hardware address is displayed. I've restarted the desktop and rebooted. The laptop is an HP with what appears to be a wireless on/off button at the top of the keyboard. The wireless button is lighted and won't turn off. Never had this problem before. When the power has gone out before and the modem/router restarted, Gnome/Fedora automatically conntected to my wireless network.

Fedora Core 15 kernel 2.6.40.3-0.fc15.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Aug 16 04:10:59 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm experiencing this exact same problem with my Acer TravelMate 6292. The only difference is that the wireless led is off and does not turn on even when I press the wireless button. NetworkManager is running and reports that wireless is unavailable. Wireless network checkbox is checked and no wireless networks are detected. On windows everything works, so it's not hardware related.

cunha17 your issue is completely different than thetenor's
thetenor's was a dchp reset do the a power outage

yours ????

also as others might point out hijacking a thread is not nice

the only similarities is fedora 15

Is it a built in or a usb dongle ?

it might be some use a "winmodem" a WINDOWS ONLY software based system

running
Code:

su -
lspci

should list what is connected if it is a built in and not a usb dongle.

I'm sorry, but I thought, since the thread was not even answered, that it was opened. And it was not clear to me, and to everyone else, that it was dhcp related, since there is no answer to the thread.

As reported by the author of this thread, mine is also a builtin wireless device:
05:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)

It used to work before, but suddenly stopped. I figured out that, if I do "ifup wlan0", then the status of the NetworkManager device wlan0 becomes "Not connected" and it starts to detect the networks again.

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0:
DEVICE="wlan0"
HWADDR="00:1F:3C:34:57:13"
ONBOOT="no"
NM_CONTROLLED="yes"

Since it's NM controlled, the ONBOOT clause has to be "no", as it is with ifcfg-eth0 that works just fine.
So I found a workaroud doing "ifup wlan0" that it's not nice, but works. Thanks anyway.

Can you provide a little more information on "ifup wlan0"? Is wlan0 the default wireless LAN device? If not, how do I determine what device to reference? Are the lines that are listed after /etc/sysconfig/.... output of a command or a file that can be edited?

Thanks

Apparently, the wireless card is bad because wireless connectivity is not available in both Windows Vista and a new installation of F16. Thanks for all the help.
