Wireless network card suggestions needed. Mandrake 10.1
 

Our family just got DSL for xmas, and our plan is to use a wireless network, so I have easy access to the familys internet connection. I am currently using Mandrake 10.1 CE on a HP Pavilion ZT1130. I am looking for a pcmcia card that will work under my distro, and XP if necessary. Possibly a hardware card? Somewhat inexpensive too.

Are there any suggestions of different pcmcia cards to use to get me on the right track?

I've used 2 cards that work fine - A Trendnet TEW-226PC, and an Orinoco Gold Classic Relabel (hit Ebay - you can get one for 30-40 bucks IIRC). If you plan on using any fun wireless/wardriving utilities, I'd recommend the Orinoco.

Is their a difference between the Orinoco Gold pc card and the Proxim Orinoco gold?

I am new to Mandrake but found installing the Microsoft MN 520 was very easy.

Difference between Orinoco cards? Not much. I use an Enterasys Roamabout DS. The Proxim card should work fine.

grrr... Verizon won't tell us what wireless router they are giving us with our dsl connection. :(

does anybody know what brand verizon gives out?

They appear to give out Linksys routers.
