Wireless LAN Problems

Ok, i have two computers. One has DSL and a wireless router on it. The other has a wireless usb adapter on it.

The main computer(the one with DSL) has windows. The other one has Mandrake Linux.

The wireless router and the wireless usb adapter are both dells.

How exactly do I setup my network on the Linux computer?

Is your wireless USB netork adapter setup already?

If not, do you know if it is a Prism or atmel based chipset?
If you didn't understand that, then there is a lot to talk about.
if you can find your specific brand and model on the 'USB table' found at http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/usbtable.html
then you have an atmel based chipset...otherwise it is most likely Prism based.

before I go too far, are you ready for a little work...probably not too bad if you already know a little about Linux.

For atmel based cards
You will be interested in the following sites:

1)http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net check out the links section and the howto's links specifically.

2) and my own site, which gives a fully functional set of instructions aimed mostly at RedHat 7.3 and 8.0 users, but may be very helpfull to others at

Prism based cards
I have no idea how good this sites is, but it could be useful
http://www.linux-wlan.com/linux-wlan/
it seems to be the major prism based site...or has links to good sites.

If unclear, post the brand, and version of your usb wireless lan adapter.
Its easy if you can get the right help for it...otherwise it can take a very long time to figure out. I am affraid I only know how to do the atmelwlandriver installation...and not 100% of the time

Good luck
