Question Wireless keeps cutting out then stops completely (D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 dongle).

Hi.

Yestermorn my desktop's internet connection kept cutting out every few minutes and eventually there was no wifi networks showing in NetworkManager. The router seems fine as my other PC (laptop) connects perfectly to the internet. I have a 'D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G122 802.11g Wireless USB Adaptor'. I reinstalled the drivers with 'firmware-ralink_0.43_all.deb' but this did not fully fix the situation.

On bootup, I briefly see a message saying something like: "failed to load rt_nic ... "

What shall I do?

Thanks.

When I tried to connect other dongles, the OS froze and the num lock + caps lock lights blinked non-stop. A hard reset was the only way back.

I booted with another kernel but the problem remains.

Also, I booted from a pen drive and the dongle was not working on the live USB but other dongles (which I cannot get to work on Debian 8) all worked great on Live Ubuntu 16.04 and Live Solus MATE. I think the D-Link may be failing or kaput -- it's been active nearly every day for 9+ years.
