Wireless GUI SSID Selector?
Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I hope it's an easy question. First, some brief background. My Linux experience goes back to about 1990, so I've been "playing" with it for some time, mostly as a tool for networking (DNS server, sniffing, IDS, etc). So I'm pretty good with basic Linux system administration.
I'm also a proponent of introducing Linux to others. Recently my father in law was given a used laptop with W2000 installed. Problem is, the admin password is unknown, so he asked me what I dcould do about it. Note he does not have the W2000 OS; if I wipe the amchine the OS is gone.
Now, all he wants to do is use this machine for surfing at hot spots. I offered to replace his Windows with Fedora (after explaining what Linux was) and he's all for it.
Problem is, if this is to work for him, I cannot rely on him to use CLI utilities to search and find hotspots. I need a GUI that displays all of that, where he can simply point, click, and connect. SImply accepting the first one the wireless NIC attcahes to isn't good enough.
Does anyone know of such a utility? I am almost certain one is out there and probably right under my nose but thus far I've had no luck. Thanks for any replies.
