Wireless connection on Dell laptop Latitude D 420
I have a Dell D 420 Latutude laptop - 2 partitions C 35 GB D 45 GB with Win XP SP3.
I installed 8.04 Ubuntu thru Wubi inside Windows. My wireless card is Dell 1390 WLAN card ( Bcom 4311 I think) I am not able to connect via wireless. I am new to Linux, this is my 1st effort Any advices... Also if you indicate command lines tell me how to feed them in Does sudo get-apt command need internet connection Thanks |
Don't know about that card, but sure, apt-get needs internet to download the drivers and all the other stuff, you need/want ;).
It looks like it is a Broadcom card you have, I suggest to use ndiswapper and the MS XP driver. 1: Make sure you got a working internet-connection (ie: Ethernet) 2: sudo apt-get install ndisgtk ndiswapper-common ndiswapper-utils-1.9 (or use Synaptic, search for "ndis"). 3: Get the MS driver-CD, use ndiswrapper to install the XP driver and you shoud be on the Net - wireless :). Sorry for the misspelling.... It should be ndis-wrapper.... (anything) instead of ndiswapper....
My mistake. Best regards Stardustdk |
