wireless connection ok with knoppix dvd , no connection with installed fedora 4
as in subject knoppix dvd boot connects to wireless net but i "can't get no connection" when i start up the installed version of c. negus's red hat bible fedora 4. windows xp, on this dual boot hp dv4000 also auto detects to net.
intell 2200bg is the hardware. "the error is unable to auto detect (in kwifi mgr.). "thanx for any help. doc

11/16/05 new info...error is :
ipw-2.2-boot.fw load failed:re -2
unable to load firmware:0XFFFFFFFE
1)net config does not list intell pro 2200
2)kwifi does not auto detect and i am unable to configure.
3)I put the two drivers, ipw2200.ko and ieee8021.ko (apparently up to date) into lib/firmware without help.
apparently i need to manually set this up somehow...
so id appreciate more info. thanx doc

fedora doesnt have the same type of hardware detection as a little research on what type of wireless chipset your card has, then simply load up the correct driver for it...should work fine...

you can configure the ndis wrapper and use the actual windows drivers for your wireless adap pters. You will need to identify the chipset of your wireless card, which should not be difficult. will direct you to the links for this. has an excellent ndis wrapper project.
Also, visit linuxant's website for configuring your wirless adapter using their software. They have easy step by step
instructions, and you will use your window's drivers also.
Still, Fedora 1-4 have the airo_cs driver built in to the kernel so using a cisco aironet pcm352 card will work on many laptop models without any configuration
