When I installed my wireless card in Mdk 9.2 (and 9.1) it showed up as eth1...

On my current laptop, I have a built in network card, and I use the pcmcia slot for the wireless...its also eth1 for the wireless.

Its just a name as far as I can tell.

Do you get any specific errors connecting to your router?

A few things I noticed that made life easier when setting up:

1 - turn off all security settings on your wireless router, no WEP, no MAC filters, broadcast ESSID etc...
2 - Work as much as you can from the command line...never had any luck with the wizards personally. (iwconfig should get you there)

Only once you manage to connect, then you can put in the security features one by one...

I have already done all of the stuff you told me. Ill tell you something wierd that is going on, when I make a change in iwconfig via command line it changes initially but 10 minutes later it reverts back to what it was initially. I noticed that when I was trying to set the essid but it kept going blank. It seems to be recognising the card but i cant connect to my router.
help

Wow that IS weird...do you have anything in a file called ifcfg-eth1 (its in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts)?

I'm groping at straws here...

Trust me friend...I have a day like that at least once a month...if not once a week

What did you do to get it working? (In case someone else finds this thread and needs the same solution)

Im almost embarassed to say. But for some reason The encryption didnt turn off when I went into my router options and shut off all security(mac filtering, encryption, firewall, etc...)
I swear i did but i guess it didnt go through or i just forgot and thought i did. but anyway after turning all of that off it connected instantly. then i turned each thing on one by one until i got it secure again (lol well i mean as secure as Wireless can get)

aw man,
I reinstalled linux, turned off all security on my wireless router, installed the pcmcia-cs source as well as the new orinoco driver just like i did before but now I can get on the internet. I did everything the same, and I can get to my routers admin panel but I cannot access the internet or resolve any webpages except the router admin page.
help

same problem but with NetGearMA401

I am able to connect through my router to my XP systems, but it won't let me out onto the internet.

In addition, my RH WS V3 doesn't respond to IWconfig or IFconfig commands.

Hopefully someone chimes in with a solution as I have posted my problem in the laptop forum. Maybe it should be here.

Dale
