Wireless and Ethereal, only receiving "other" packet types

I am using ethereal on ipw2200 drivers.

When the card is set into monitor mode, the only type of packets it receives are other packet types, not TCP or UDP packets.

I understand that my network is encrypted, but there are other networks around here that are unencrypted, and they do not show any normal traffic either.

When I am in managed mode, then ethereal shows all sorts of neat packets (tcp, udp, and so on), but none of them come from any of the other computers I have (which of course are wireless).

I guess what I am asking are a couple of questions:

1) Is there a way to analize encrypted packets if I have the wep key and encrypted data for when I am in monitor mode?
2) can I set up my card so that it gets these normal tcp/udp packets when I am in monitor mode?
3) is there a reason why I am only getting traffic from my own computer when in managed mode

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
