Wireless Adapter not being detected by Ubuntu

I recently installed ubuntu and it does not detect my wireless adapter, what should I do?

amishtechie 01-13-2007 04:58 PM

What wireless adapter are you using and have you checked to see if linux supports it?

eagle012 01-14-2007 06:44 PM

i am using a WUSB54GC adapter by linksys. It is not being detected. When I try to run the setup, it says there is an error and will not open it up. Any ideas what the problems are?

First problem is that very few if any distrobutions will automatically detect and support the use of a usb wireless card.

Second problem is that you didn't use http://www.google.com/linux, and in particular did not search there for both the terms WUSB54GC and linux. had you done that, the first page found has a link to this page, which explains in detail how to install this device into a machine running Ubuntu 6.06.

http://wwwu.uni-klu.ac.at/agebhard/WUSB54GC/

Don't fear search engines. Google is aware of infinitely more knowledge than any human could possess. If anybody posted about a device, google knows, and can point you at it, but you have to ask. Hell, I didn't even add ubuntu in my google search!

Peace,
JimBass

haha, damn yall got bitch when you answer a question. I am completely new to linux, I didn't even know http://www.google.com/linux existed. I did search and had a hard time finding an answer, so in turn I came to the board. Thanks for the answer, no thanks for your attitude. get off your high chair and help some one out

My friend, I already posted the solution.

http://www.google.com/linux is nothing more than google, with the term linux thrown in, so you get the same great ability of google, precrafted towards linux.

We get many questions here, like yours, that are not asked out of a lack of linux knowledge, but are asked because the person asking didn't care to take the time to search for their own answer. I didn't weave a magic spell to find your solution, I searched at google for the terms WUSB54GC and ubuntu, and the link that had your solution (that I posted) was in the first 3 links.

I'm not suggesting that you're unintelligent, or unworthy, or any of that garbage. I was just ticked off that with zero effort I found your answer.

I'm sorry if I've offended you, that was not my purpose or my intention.

I would suggest going forward, that you use google's linux site. You can also help your searches by throwing in as many terms that apply as possible. As I said, ubuntu and WUSB54GC were all I needed to find your solution.

Peace and Regards,
JimBass
