wifi stops after an hour or two

after an hour or so, the wireless connection stops working and I have to reboot to get it started again.

kwifi stops showing an ip address, but won't refresh
refreshing network with yast does nothing

restarting pcmcia makes no difference
init1 then init5 works, but easier to reboot (I can go and make a cup of tea)

modprobe dhcp - module not found (I only have dhcp client rather than server)

Machine: toshiba tecra 9100, inbuilt pcmcia network card (orinoco driver), suse 9.0

either how do I stop the card cutting out, or how do I refresh the ip address etc

thank you,

You may need to create and run a simple shell script to ping the AP every couple minutes to "refresh" the connection. The problem could be the lack of activity and a script pinging the AP would provide simple solution.

thanks for your reply
it isn't actually an inactivity problem though as I use the internet continuously.

(moreover, the connection from the router to internet is fine, as I have the desktop continuously on without any problems)

(for information, it's a home network, with linksys router connected to Zoom ethernet asdl modem)

I'm having a similar problem but, in my case active windows continue to work but attempts to access new urls are unsuccessful. My Cisco 340 using native Linux drivers doesn't have this problem. My DWL-650+ using Linuxant driverloader does. By any chance are you using driverloader?

If you want to refresh your ip manually read this.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but if it is than you need to search this forum more.
