WiFi problems

OK the Wifi card is a Edimax with an rt2500 chipset, my box is Debian testing with a 2.6.8 kernel, I downloaded the driver from here http://rt2400.sourceforge.net v1.1.0-b3

Problem is the only instruction I can find is for the rt2400 chipset using mehis with a 2.6.7 kernel (instructions here http://www.methods.co.nz/doc/ralink-2400.html)

lspci see the card ok.

I have downloaded the kernel source, kernel package, and kernel tree. But now I am stuck at the point where the instructions start installing patches for the kernel. I don't thing these are going to work with a std debian setup. Can anybody suggest what I need to do from here??

I have the rt2400 and all I needed to do was to compile the source-code. I never patched my kernel.
This is what I did:
$ cd rt2400/Module
$ make
$ make install

Then you might have to edit /etc/modprobe.d/aliases to include
alias ra0 rt2400
Also edit the /etc/network/interfaces
If you use dhcp, add the line

iface ra0 inet dhcp

Otherwise set up a static adress.

Then
$ modprobe rt2500

Check the output from
$ ifconfig ra0

$ iwconfig ra0

$ ifconfig ra0 up
$ iwconfig ra0
See if you get any input.
Check signal level and link quality. Wait a little and try again.
$ iwconfig ra0
Now you can write the name of your router or just use any.
$ iwconfig ra0 essid any
The moment of truth
$ ifup ra0

Good luck!

Hi,
I hope I've got the right area but I have installed the RA2500 through ndiswrapper on my Mandrake 10.2 system and after a short while the system locks up and I have to restart. I have had it at the website url one time with the message that "it can't locate xyz.com". Mostly whenever I select any Network setup or reconfigure in the Control, it locks up.
Any ideas?
