#WIFI IP Loss - #Ubuntu #Zesty fails to obtain #IP when logged to #Router via WIFI

When I plug Ethernet cable off computer, it remains on WIFI thus losing outer IP, that is goes offline for the world (retains 192.168.0.x IP).

Therefore problem with router config is not possible - unlikely - since ALL OTHER machines operate properly whether via WIFI or Ethernet or both. No eth0 wlan0 prob.

Now the other machines are on Win 7, XP, Xandros (EEEPC), Raspberry &

bunch of Androids. They have no problem, so Router should have none. In fact even the now "troublesome" Zesty machine operated OK for months.

That laptop is Acer with state-of-art Zesty Ubuntu daily-updated does not help at all: but those are known parameters.

The ISP service improvised something about being sparing on IPv4 which seems ridiculous default non-effort in order to baffle me further. Online forums are often impotent, unwilling or otherwise bogus.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

If I understand the question correctly your laptop will not automatically switch from wifi to ethernet when you plug in a cable?

NetworkManager is the service that automatically switches and configures both wireless and wired adapters. Do you still see the wireless icon in the task bar when you plug in the cable? Have you tried restarting the laptop with the cable already inserted?
