wifi connecting

hey, i have Atheros Pcmcia wifi card, access point EW-7206APB from edimax, i setuped subnet on ap, configured gateway on AP and compiled madwifi drivers on my laptop with wifi card. When i try to connect, i run
ifconfig ath0 essid my_network
ath0 is name of my card, and its in managed mode, then i do this command:
/sbin/dhcpcd -d -t 10 ath0
and ill get IP, but the problem is: i cant connect anywhere or even ping anything, Kwifi is showing iam connected, its showing signal str and speed, but SuperKaramba AERO AiO plugins are showing disconnected, and, as i said, i cant ping anything, what iam doing wrong or which command i misses? Thanks for help

EDIT: Kwifimanager is not showing IP after running dhcpcd

Are you sure you are in the right mode; this is easy to get wrong with atheros based cards. Try running:

# ifconfig ath0 down
# wlanconfig ath0 destroy
# wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
# ifconfig ath0 essid my_network
# /sbin/dhcpcd -d -t 10 ath0

The "sta" or station mode is the normal mode you should be using.

thanks, but... when executing ifconfig ath0 essid my_network, it gives me: essid: Host name lookup failure, but iam inserting correct network name, and on AP it shows my notebook as associated client. Oh, superkaramba just show me iam connected, thats great, but i cant get anywhere on net, i thought this can be because of bad settings of AP, but my gateway is setuped good, its, and the data from AP are going thru two swtiches, ie. its in subnet, but still, i cant get anywhere even with ethernet, but this pc iam on is in same subnet with same switch, and its working, i know this is kinda offtopic in this subforum, but can anyone help me ?
