What wireless notebook card should I buy?

I just inherited an old laptop, and I've successfully installed Debian Etch. So far so good!
Now I would like to get wireless working. I already have a wireless antena on my DSL modem, so all I need now is a wireless notebook card to plug into the 32-bit cardbus.
So what brand should I buy? Having read around this and other forums, I gather that the chipset is what matters, and not the card manufacturer. Is this correct?
I would much prefer to not have to mess around with ndiswrapper and the like...
