USB WLAN adapter laging down entire system

hi

i bought this netgear ma101 (rev.b) usb adapter some time ago and now i want to use it on my linux box
actually it's just virtual (fedora core II on vmware) with a 2.6.5 kernel

i compiled and installed the atmelwlandriver and it loads without problems
if i plug in the device now here's what happens

dmesg:
Code:

usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 9
usb vendor/product=864/4102
usbvnetr: driver version 2.0.1.0, compiled Dec 24 2004 18:06:46 (dbg_mask x0)
MAC addr 00:09:5B:34:0A:AA firmware 1.103.2.175
divert: allocating divert_blk for atml0

....

it would then lag down my entire system within just a few seconds

as i'm relatively new to linux i just wanted to ask if anyone here could help me with this

thx

Wait...are you running Linux inside of VMWare on, say, Windows?

You don't need the Atmel driver then.

i was, but i have forsaken this project and am now running on linux only again
thx anyway

There are rumours that kernels <2.6.11 have some usb-related bugs...
