Unable to connect to the internet on Ubuntu MATE

Hi
I'm attempting to access the web with a TL-WN722N wireless adapter. I was told this adapter had good compatibility with Linux out of the box, which is why I purchased it.

I can't get online at all, my wifi is not detected. I can't use the sudo apt command to get extra packages because I'm not connected to the net.

I'm writing this on Windows 10 via dual boot. I would not be able to access the internet otherwise.

I tried the sudo iwconfig command:
lo no wireless extensions
enp2so no wireless extensions

Any help would be appreciated.

Does the USB system detect the wireless adapter?

There now appears to be 3 versions of the TL-WN722N. The first version used an atheros chip which is probably why someone told you it was good to use with linux. v2 uses a Realtek rtl8188eus chip and there has only recently been an rtl8188eu driver added to staging.
You could also download the driver from Realtek for linux from a TP-Link site and there are lots of rtl8188eu repos on github as well.

I have no idea what chipset the version 3 uses.

ruizu1990,

Welcome to LQ.

I suggest that you get a refund on the TL-WN722N.
Ages ago I bought a TL-WN727N, which was supposed to work in Linux. It doesn't.

The D-Link N150 USB wifi adapter works:

There are also plenty of these brand new (old stock) on ebay.

That post by cwizardone is only applicable to the PCIe adapter. The usb adapters don't have that register.

Thanks for that info.
