I don't know what you mean by # yum.

'yum' is the Fedora software installer. In Linux we do usually not download software.
But use a command line installer like yum, or the GUI 'Package Manager'. ('yumex'?)
It's like a catalog with 16,000 packages :
Choose, click OK, and the software gets installed.
Using yum : Open the terminal, and : 1) su <enter-password>
2) yum search <name> ( Or part of name )
3) yum install hostapd
Also useful : Finding the package that provides a file : yum provides */<file>
Please also read 'man yum'. It's a manual page, to be read in the terminal.
http://linux.die.net/man/8/yum
More questions : Then please tell which Fedora, you use. ( cat /etc/redhat-release ).
Good luck !
