ubuntu network manager changes wifi password

hi all
i just installed ubuntu 9.04 on my aspire one and i still have linpus
anyway when i type in my network key it falis then if i put show on it says something like eeeeecd9429848 but i could type in 123 and next time its 84ruhfu4 etc this is isnt just with aa0 same with packard bell imedia j4500 (linksys card wmp10 i think) so how do i connect cos it always fails

It sounds like it's converting your passphrase into hexadecimal. That shouldn't be a problem.

What encryption are you using?
Does it work if you turn encryption off?
Does it work with other wireless access points?
