Trying to setup GPRS connection via USB with Motorola E380
 

Greetings,

I bought Red Hat 9 a couple months now and i'm just finding the vibes/time to mess with it, i'm so excited :-) Anyway, my first problem is how to get this thing online???

I'm dualbooting with WIN2000 and i have a PCI 56k and a USB GPRS connection that keeps me going, however, Linux is not too friendly with either of them as it doesn't see the modem and i don't how/where/what to look for when i plug in the GPRS cable.

Well, what else can i say, i'm stuck like a duck!
Any suggestions appreciated.

i got two desktops which are like silk thread, everything's fine!!

I was introduced to fedora1 via a book i bought from bn.com, now i'm all over fedora three digging through the mess :-)

my real problem is my hp zd7168cl laptop, it's got a 17" screen that just won't give me a reasonable resolution under rh9/fc1/fc3, but i'm still at it!!

n e way, for OUR problem try minicom, it might just work for you, then you can tell me all about it :-) :-)

btw, i can see the port the phone's on but it's not responding to any AT commands ..... good luck

there is a programme called 'Modemlink' in knoppix and kanotix. May be you can download it from somewhere or use harddisk install of kanotix as I do. It detects the mobile device and creates link as /dev/modem, then you can use kppp to dial out.

It detectes irda, cable, and bluetooth. I am using nokia 6820 and bluetooth.

I can get the whole system connected to the internet within 10 minutes including the installation.

I tried to get your 'modemlink' software from the net, but I couldn't find any website hosting it.
I even try to find it on a knoppix ftp, but there's no way I can find somewhere to just grab a package.
Moreover, what is exactly modemlink? Is it a script ? is it a bin ? Since I can't get it just by itself, I would be pleased to know a little more about it before downloading a whole ISO with a 56K line...

I had a similar problem, but i gave up, the funny thing is i attached the phone to my friends laptop running Suse, and the phone/modem worked like a charm.........

I won't give up... I'm a little bit disturbed by the fact that some distros are packed with specific software that you can't get anywhere else but the distro installed itself... Maybe am I wrong... but "open source", "sharing of knowledge"... All those beautiful words have they been forgotten by some of us ????
Plus, I can attach my phone to my laptop ; it's found by the kernel like an usb modem... But I just can't dial with it...
I've try the "GPRS Easy Connection" tool, but it failed every time I tried, whatever the conf params were, it failed...
If someone out there hear my call... Please answer me...

The phone is a modem (/dev/ttyACM0), you can use ppp to connect. Nothing special needed.

I normally use the dialup tools that come with my distro, like kinternet which uses wvdial. However I did try chat and here is how I am connected now. Your device is probably /dev/ttyACM0 which does not matter to pppd.

I use cdma, if you get errors let us know..
