Question Trying to get Mandrake 9.2 and Netgear MA311 Wireless Working

Hi everyone

I have been spending my time trying to get Mandrake 9.2 to work with my Netgear MA311 wireless card working.

I was able to get it working with Red Hat 9, but when I loaded Mandrake 9.2 on my machine, it does not work. I have my linux kernel src loaded and also downloaded the latest linux-wlan package from AbsoluteValue Systems and did config, make all, make install, and did what the readme told me to do.

When I do modprobe prism2_pci, it fails, and when I check the dmesg, it tells me that the prism2_pci.o driver does not exsist and tells me that the irq or whatnot may be invalid.

I know I have the module in the right place and stuff, but somehow modprobe does not work.

Has anyone have any luck with Mandrake 9.2 and MA311?

Any hints and advise would be very helpful. Thanks!

For whatever reason, I've also had trouble w/modprobe .. try loading the module using insmod instead and see if that helps. If you're missing the prism2_pci.o driver, you'll have to get that first ..
It's been a while since I've used Mandrake w/ the MA311 but it does work .. good luck and let us know what happens ..

wireless card recognized - but dest host unreachable

Hi

Thank you for your suggestion.

I insmod the prism2_pci.o module and gave my machine a reboot

when i did ifconfig, there is was
lo and wlan0

I have a cable modem -> wireless router/gateway (192.168.0.1)
I now configured wlan0 with ip=192.168.0.104 broadcast=192.168.0.255 netwask=255.255.255.0

When I initiate ping my gateway, it says:
Network Destination Unreachable.
.......
100% packet loss

I can't ping anywhere except my wireless interface card
I believe I have setup my routing table right: when I do route it gives me....

127.0.0.0 .....................................
192.168.0.0 ................................
default 192.168.0.1 UG ...............

Any suggestions?

Hi
This sounds like the problem I had. I solved it by running:

/sbin/route add default gw 192.168.0.1 wlan0

in the konsole

/Johan
