Question The ADM8211 closed-source driver, an SMC2635W, and Fedora Core 1

I'm currently suffering from the same old problems that others have noted on this board and elsewhere - I have an SMC2635W that the closed-source ADM8211 driver will not recognize when the PCMCIA subsystem is started with the card inserted. After reinserting the card the device is detected properly by the closed-source and the network startup scripts will configure the card.

Is there any way to repair this issue so that the driver will detect the card every time? Curiously enough, this SMC2635W doesn't seem to return any cardctl information, so I can't add anything to /etc/pcmcia - as a result I have to manually load the module after the cardmgr daemon is started, which of course doesn't work because the driver can't detect the card.

I'm using Fedora Core 1 with the default 2.4.22 kernel on a Gateway Solo 1450 laptop with an O2Micro OZ6912 Brand X Cardbus controller. The card works perfectly once detected.

Anyone have any ideas?

Bizzump.

Apologies for the double post, but I've since found that plugging in the card after the PCMCIA subsystem has started, ejecting it and then plugging it in again causes the driver to recognize the card, and also manages to autoconfigure it as well. I also noticed that when the PCMCIA subsystem is first started the telltale error "Card Services does not match" also appears, which is quite interesting.

Again, does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try to do next?

EDIT:

I just checked the pcmcia-cs website and found out that pcmcia-cs 3.2.7 contains several bugfixes for the O2Micro series of Cardbus controllers. The only problem now is finding a way to install pcmcia-cs 3.2.7 on Fedora Core 1.
