SuSE 9.2 with acx111 WiFi sees AP but no net

Hi!

After a lot of trying I have managed to get SuSE to up the wlan0 interface. It even shows me the MAC address of my AP. Yet, I cannot ping or connect to anything.

I have an old P2 with a new D-Link DWL-G520+. I wanted a 520 but realised to late that the gave me a 520+... oh well.

By the way SuSE recognised the chipset from the beginning when I installed. Yet I had to manually install the latest drivers for acx100 and acx111 cards before it even thought about working.

I have tried setting the channel to 6 on the AP and Linux and encryption is disabled.

As I said the output of ifconfig and iwconfig look good but no packets get through.

I will try to post any outputs as soon as I am home but remember I have no network right now . I'll have to type the output.

Unfortunately I have made a mistake here. The entry I thought was from the AP was jsut from the card itself... please don't ask me why I mistook one for the other...

Anyway, the problem persists... I have the interface but pings are getting nowhere... No ideas?

Hi Kokuyo,

You may wish to consider posting your outputs from iwconfig and ifconfig - if they show anything. This will help others diagnose your problem better. ifconfig will show the MAC of the card, iwconfig will show the MAC of the AP. If your router has 11g extensions built in (ie. Turbo mode, hi-speed mode etc) you may also wish to disable these, at least temporarily. Anyway, you can read the full horror story on getting your card to work on the HCL entry at this site here
Regards
Chris

I will check out the link. I'm also considering switching to another Linux distribution... but knowing my luck with Linux I'd manage to get wlan to work but not my harddrives or something stupid like that

Well, we needn't worry anymore... today I ordered a G520 which is supposed to sport an Atheros chipset... If that doesn't work I'll try changing over to a slackware...

Should that fail also I'll try installing win2k on the P2 Box
