SuSE 9.2 modprobe ndiswrapper errors

I have installed ndiswrapper 1.1 on SuSE 9.2 but after I add the driver for the D-Link DWL G-122 Wireless USB Adapter I get a fatal error when I write the command modprobe ndiswrapper.

The driver I'm using is the NetRTUSB.inf and after I check with the ndiswrapper -l command

I'm told that both the driver and the hardware are present.

When I then try to modprobe ndiswrapper the following message appears :

FATAL: Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/modules/2.6.8-24-default/extra/ndiswrapper.ko): Invalid module format

I also used the dmesg command to get further information about the problem and the ndiswrapper section of the dmesg output produces the following message :

ndiswrapper: unsupported module, tainting kernel.
ndiswrapper version 0.10 loaded (preempt=no,smp=no)
ndiswrapper (wrapper_init:2286): loadndiswrapper failed (1536);check utils version mismatch

For some reason dmseg indicates that it is still using ndiswrapper 0.10 that comes with the SuSE 9.2 package but I removed that version using the YaST Add/Remove Software wizard and then installed ndiswrapper 1.1

The reason I removed the older 0.10 version is because when I added the NetRTUSB.inf driver and checked the ndiswrapper -l command I noticed that the driver was present but the hardware was not.

I would be grateful for any further advice to help me resolve this problem.

Thank you in advance for you assistance.

Regards,

I.G.

Did you compile ndiswrapper from source? It looks like you have a ndiswrapper which is compiled against a different kernel version. So try to install it from source.

Thank you for your reply darkleaf,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by compile from the source.

I compiled ndiswrapper 1.1 using the make and then make install commands and there were no errors at the end of that procedure.

I did the compilation after I installed the kernel source from the SuSE 9.2 CD and also removed the 0.10 ndsiwrapper version which doesn't seem to support the USB wireless adapter I have.

I don't understand why the ndiswrapper 0.10 is still there when I look at the dmesg output.

Is there a way I can remove the ndiswrapper 0.10 completely because it appears that it is still in place even though I removed the package using YaST ?

Regards,

I.G.
