Suse 9.2 Microsoft mn-510 usb adapter

Alright, i'm a complete n00b when it comes to setting up networking stuff in linux.... so my question is, does anyone have any idea how to set this up in suse 9.2? I configure it through YAST a dozen different times during the install and never got it to see the internet.

So what exactly do i have to put for each of the parameters to get this thing to work? Its a DHCP wireless network, basic Linksys router. WEP is enabled, and i know my SSID. So how do i get this thing to see the router and get out to the internet?

JSpired 03-02-2005 03:04 AM

What are the hardware specs. I can help!

Make sure you've entered the SSID info for starters, which I'm assuming you have..

WRXHokie 03-02-2005 05:43 AM

Hardware specs for what exactly?

Its a MN-510 usb wireless adapter. I enter the ssid everytime i go through their little setup wizard, for some reason the damn os never sees the adapter, not sure why.

Specs.... 2.6 Ghz intel p4, 512 RAM, Radeon 9600 video card, Sound blaster live sound card, MSI motherboard. ndiswrapper is installed on the machine (but it doesnt appear to support my usb adapter) so how do i get it working?

any more thoughts on what my problem might be?

WRXHokie 03-03-2005 08:02 PM

So i set my default gateway to be my router to see if it would find it to get an ip address, but no luck.

I get the error on startup now that cant find driver name or something with wlan.... suse definitely knows my adapter, so how do i get wlan to recognize the driver?

JSpired 03-03-2005 08:20 PM

Have you taken a look at this thread?

WRXHokie 03-16-2005 07:59 PM

Yes i did, i did exactly what that guy listed, and it didnt work. I still get the same errors on startup. Could someone please look at the log files i posted earlier and tell me what is causing me the problems on my system?

WRXHokie 03-17-2005 01:32 PM

linux:~ # iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.

sit0 no wireless extensions.

These errors are from the startup log up above... anyone have any clue what they mean? It looks like that could possibly be the problem. The usb driver is loaded, iwconfig just doesnt wany to use it or something.

WRXHokie 03-17-2005 03:27 PM

Found out that doesnt have anything to do with it... although i dont know why i'm posting that cause no one appears to be listening.

You'd think i could get more help considering this is the wireless network forum. Guess not

WRXHokie 03-20-2005 10:13 AM

Anyone, can you help please?

WRXHokie 03-20-2005 02:54 PM

Could this possibly have to do with a firewall setup on Suse? I have no need for one on the OS since the router has one. Any thoughts?
