SUSE 10.0 wlan Problem with Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG

###########################################

release: suse10.0
hardware: Ibm ThinkpadR52/Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG

###########################################

Hello,

Problem: wlan adapter wont get the DHCP Adress, i guess > Driver-Encryption not working right.

Linux 10.0 has connect to the router and the system detects the Infrastructure and tells signal, ssid, etc. but wont get any IP Adress from the dhcp router.

When i use the same configuration with the phisical Lan Adapter,
everything works fine, DHCP Adress is received emediately when pluged the cable.

I think the Problem might be the Encryption but why !!!

prev. release used: suse9.3 (everything working fine with Intel
PRO/Wireless 2915ABG, so there is no Hardware Problem)

###########################################

Here some detailed Information about the 10.0 configuration:

52Thinkpad:~ # iwconfig eth1 essid giganet key open s:blablabla retry 100

R52Thinkpad:~ # iwconfig

I dont like to disable the Wep128 Encryption becouse there could no Problem whithin the hardware, Windows XP works fine within. Also the previous Installtion of Suse 9.3 works with the ndiswanwrapper !

I bought this release again in hope Novell have solved the wlandriver missery.

But after hours of testing and trying every possability i know i guess it wont works like Novell promissed!

Hopefully awaiting your Answers.

On my post, the one you replied to, in the first post is the answer to your question. there is a link to a site for a driver to amke it work. I believe hardware vendors decided to make everything not work with 10.0 The only answer I have found is this drive, go back to where you replied to my post and read the top and you will get it up and running if you follow the directions on the site.

I'm a Mac, Linux, and WinBlows user, in that order. I recently installed the retail version of SuSE 10 on my Uniwill 257SA1 laptop. Knock wood, so far, no hitches. It's running perfect. I also recently upgraded the wireless NIC to the 2915ABG. I haven't tried the NIC on Linux, but I do have one advice, and this comes from MicroCrap. Pertaining to drivers, if you have a choice between a driver that came with the OS, and one from the hardware manufacturer, install the driver from the manufacturer not the OS. Drivers from the OS are generic, at best. I have found this to be 100% true.

>>> Problem: wont get any IP from the router, it drops my request becouse the encryption wont work.
>>> i configure yast/network... wlan with encrytion and key settings, everthing looks fine with yast.
>>> end yast, start over again, network wlan seems Ok, encryption and key seems allright.
>>> BUT then the deeper look !!!
>>> iwconfig tells the encryption is OFF and dont shows any wlan key.

iwconfig

>>> but why is iwconfig telling this, yast shows it all right how can i fix this ?
>>> i tryed to configure the wlan manually with the options.

>>> but then the needed changes wont get commited, a failure uccures "Operation not supportet (D800)".
>>> Hardware is ok, because Suse 9.3 with the same accespoint and configuration works 100%.

But why is with SUSE 9.3 everything working fine ?
Is dont understand why the release 10.0 gets such Problems.

i also use Windows XP with the same Hardware, everthing is fine and working.

The Problem must be cumming with Suse 10.0.

I bought the release 10.0 and like to support the linux-community, but what i get is not what i requested to get from a payed Product!

Sorry, i am realy disapointed if no solf could get for wlan.
