Sony VAIO laptop -- cannot turn wireless on.. the physical switch does not work

The switch on my wireless card (Sony VAIO w/Atheros) does not work under Ubuntu to toggle my wireless on. It does work fine under Vista. Anyone else with this problem? What's the solution? Thanks.
