I'm new to linux, I use xandros, and I've been trying to get my wireless network card to work, I use dual boot, and under my windowscompartiment there is no problem.
For Linux, I'm missing a driver, but I can't find it, if anyone of you has one for a SMC2835W (EU) card, I would be very thankful.
I'm not sure if there is an SMC2835W Linux driver, but you might be able to get it working (assuming you can download the Windows driver from their website/have the original Windows driver) by installing and running NdisWrapper (see below for details).

On the ndiswrapper "list of cards" wiki:
# Card: SMC 2835W V2
Chipset: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 Prism GT/Prism Duette? (rev 01)
pciid: 1260:3890
Driver: SMC Europe http://www.smc-europe.com/english/su.../2835W_V2.html
Other: Slackware 10 - kernel 2.6.9-rc2 - Ndiswrapper 0.10; works very good at 54Mbps, also with WEP (64bit)
# Card: SMC2835W-V3
Chipset: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 Prism GT/Prism Duette? (rev 01)
pciid: 1260:3890 (rev 01)
Driver: http://www.smc-europe.com/english/su.../2835W_V3.html
Other: Works with Fedora Core 3 - kernel 2.6.10-1.741_FC3 - ndiswrapper 1.0rc2; 54 Mbps, WEP (128 bit). I tried to get it working with the native prism54 linux driver, but it didn't work.
For instructions on how to install (where to download, etc...) go to the Installation Wiki.
If the installation described in the wiki goes wrong, then please just post again.
Youre best bet is to use ndiswrapper as the previous person stated but be aware that some distributions of linux mis-detect this card and load the wrong driver (due to different revisions of the same card). Ensure that the prism54 and firmware_class drivers are not loaded (use lsmod to find out, and rmmod to remove them if they are present).
I used lspci to make sure, it doesn't detect anything in the form of SMC... but, there is one thing he detects as unknown device, is this my wireless card? and how can I make it clear what it is?
Its a PCMCIA card (sometimes known simply as PC-Card or Cardbus) so it wont appear in lspci. If you run 'cardctl ident' that should report all the PCMCIA devices currently plugged in.
Also check that ndiswrapper appears in the output of lsmod. If it doesnt appear you might need to run 'modprobe ndiswrapper' to load it. If running 'modprobe ndiswrapper' causes it to work then you will need to make ndiswrapper load at boot time. Unfortunately this seems to vary between linux distributions so I probably cant help you with this. In SuSE its simply a case of adding 'ndiswrapper' to the appropriate section of /etc/sysconfig/kernel
Finally some other commands that may be helpful are 'iwlist' ('iwlist scan' will display a list of access points) and iwconfig which allows you to view and/or modify the current settings. To see more information on these commands use 'man iwlist', and 'man iwconfig'
