SMC2802W refusing to work with Fedora Core 3 and prism54 and card never starts?

Alright, this is really getting annoying.

This is the sequence of events:
Fresh install of Fedora Core 3, default installation package.
Downloaded the firmware from prism54's website, 1.0.4.3.arm and renamed it to isl3890. I placed this file under /lib/firmware

I use Fedora's network connection configuration tool and press "new" and configure new wireless. It identifies prism54 and I get to the configure wirelss connection.
I enter the info needed, Mode: auto (doesn't seem to matter if I choose managed), set the network name, channel and transmit rate (to auto). I enter the hex key.
I set it to receive ip through DHCP. The wireless connection is set up and is "Inactive".
When I choose "Activate", it comes up saying "Determining IP information for eth1....". The problem is .. it never gets that IP and ends up failing, and somehow the card is never started. The green lights on the card never turns on, so basically, the card never starts...

I've run ifconfig eth1 up

What am I doing wrong here?
