SMC2802 Prism54-based wireless PCI card
I am trying to get wireless working on SUSE 10, I have an SMC2802 wireless-g PCI card. I have the firmware in /lib/firmware but the driver cannot load it, I get an error "SIOCSIFFLAGS: timed out". I have found some posts on this and other forums alluding to using a version of the driver from 11/2004, but prism54.org is down. Does anyone else have this driver they can provide, or have another solution to this problem?
Thanks. |
I'd give prism54 a day or so to get their act back together. Their site was up recently so I'm guessing that they are just having some server issues.

Apparently there are 2 versions of this card, the latter (v2, which is what I have) uses "SoftMAC" technology, which apparently sets the MAC address when the driver loads. The open-source driver does not support this feature, and from the searching I've done, apparently never will.
ndiswrapper does work, according to what I've read, so I'll have to go that route. |
Same problem
Hi, I have exactly the same problem as VinnySem. I would like to know if you already managed to get your wireless card to work
Thanks, Bruno |
I got this card to work this weekend using ndiswrapper and the latest Windows XP driver from SMC's website. The ndiswrapper instructions were spot-on and very easy to use.
