Question SMC2662W or SMC2802W Wireless and SuSE 8.2

All,

You experts are probably tired of these questions, but HELP. I have SuSE 8.2. I have lost my hair trying to configure my wireless adapters. I have a USB SMC2662W and a PCI SMC2802W. SuSE sees the PCI SMC2802W but I can't get it to work. I have also tried to configure the USB adapter, but no luck. What do I need to do to configure one or both of these adapters? I need step by step instructions as I do not find LINUX easy.

Or is there an adapter out there that I can install and run without issue? I will buy another if need be.

Please help.

Thanks
Mike

The USB adapter, if its a version 1 or a version 2 is an Atmel device. The drivers recently made it into the kernel... but the 2.6.x kernel. They're easily compiled against a suse kernel though:

atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net

Now, as for the 2802w, according to what I can find on the www.linux-wlan.net sheet, that's an 802.11g card, one of the Prism GT's, that's also supported... although I didn't think suse would have included that driver, again its just not in the kernel yet, although Suse does love to package non-kernel drivers. What does the end of "dmesg" say? As regards to loading support for that kid anyway.

Also, might want to edit your email out of the thread, the blind mailer link is good enough for that and you just don't want to get nabbed by spiders lookin for somewhere to spam.

Cheers,

Finegan
