Hello,
I can't overcome my wlan problem.
I have two notebooks. The IBM Thinkpad with a Linksys WPC11v4 (Realtek 8081L chipset) and SuSE 8.2 is working OK.
I configured it according to the docs.
The Asus with an SMC 2635W (ADMtek 8211 chipset) and SuSE 9 is an interesting occurence.
I read a lot of writings about it.
I can set up the card with the KWifiManager and some other tools (ifconfig, route, etc.), but the arp resolution is not working. If I set the MAC of the AP with arp -s command, everything are OK.
After a while the AP's MAC expired in the arp cache, and there are no IP traffic anymore. Then I set it again, and voila!, it working again.
If I want to communicate other PCs on my LAN, I should set the MAC adresses at both end of the connection.
I'm afraid, the 8211.o module (or somebody) not handles correctly the arp requests and not replies to other's requests, so the arp cache not maintained automatically. Maybe it not generates broadcast packets and not handles it...
Is there any idea or experience?
Who and how manage the arp request and replies?
Where can I find a doc about it?
Bobek
P.S.
I can't put on the Linksys card on this machine, and the SMC card not working on the SuSE 8.2 in the IBM Thinkpad. It's very interesting too...
