smc 2635 wireless on compaq presario 906us

Hi.
I have mandrake 10.0 dual booted with xp.Everything works fine on mandrake except wireless.
I am new to linux and I'm not sure how to set up wireless.All I've tried is using the network and internet
tool to set up wireless.I have a smc2635W and it's not on the list of drivers that come up when I use the
wireless and internet tool.
Can someone please,please explain a step by step method to get this working?
P.S. lan eth0 woks fine on mandrake,but for some reason,I need to configure it every time I log in.
dunno why the settings won't get saved.

You have an adm8211b, which support is somewhat iffy for at the moment using the gpl adm8211 driver. However, at least one user has successfully gotten it to work by bringing the interface up, back down, and back up again.

the drivers don't work mdk10's default 2.6.3 kernel, which is off of the mdk 10 3 iso cd's. any suggestions besides updating the kernel for a newbie? since mdk 10 is a common distribution, do u think u could provide support for mdk10?
