slooow internet
I installed my ZyAir B-101 by adding the card to the /etc/pcmcia/config (binded with the orinoco_cs)

And now it works, but it seems that its running VERY slow. I am on a cable, and in windows the card is much faster. Why is this so much slower and how can i speed it up..

May be it is on half dublex ... see that wht your cable provider has configured then configure ur card for that ... or check in windows that is it running half or full duplex then do same for Linux

This is the wireless networking forum.
He is asking about an 802.11b wireless card.
All 802.11b is half duplex, you can't transmit and receive on the same channel at the same time, you will just hear your own transmission.

so what commands can I use to get info about my card and the wireless connection? I'm fairly new to linux and my experience is only in my CS classes that deal with a sun spark computer.

Any help is greatly apprecieated..

As root, type iwconfig. That will list out the wireless settings and some performance numbers (signal strength, noise, dropped packets).

Next, try timing a long file transfer to seen what speed you're actually getting for throughput.
