Slack 9 wireless nic problem
I am having no luck setting up my wireless nic to work with my WEP encrypted wifi router. I am running Slack 9.0 on a IBM thinkpad.
The driver gets loaded at boot time (Prism chipset) and I have no problems connecting if I disable WEP and leave the SSID open.
I was reading the man page for iwconfig and the brief section on wireless in the Slack manual to config my settings to work with my WEP encryption turned on.
First... I do not see a file called rc.wireless.conf on my system. I checked the etc/rc.d/ dir and ran both locate and find commands.
Next I tried to manually enter the settings using iwconfig.
I entered the EESID of my network and the Key ( the 26 digit hexadecimal encryption key).
iwconfig did not allow me to enter the channel ( channel 11) - I kept getting a set error. In addition my network is using the #4 key on the router for the encryption - which I am unsure how to program into iwconfig.
Any ideas / help is appreciated. I know WEP encryption is not much but it is better than nothing. JI
