Sitecom WL-012 usb wireless adapter not working with Linux

I have an i586 runnig Red Hat 9 (2.4.20-8 kernel) and the most recent driver version for WL-102 (linux-wlan-ng-0.2.0-pre14) downloaded from wlan-linux web site. My computer recognize the device (ligth is blinking) when I start wlan interface. I can also create wlan0 interface and give it an Ethernet address , but when I try to ping another computer I obtain the next error :

# ping 192.168.0.2

p80211knetdev_hard_start_xmit: Tx attempt prior to association, frame dropped
p80211knetdev_hard_start_xmit: Tx attempt prior to association, frame dropped

p80211knetdev_hard_start_xmit: Tx attempt prior to association, frame dropped
p80211knetdev_hard_start_xmit: Tx attempt prior to association, frame dropped
...................................

Does anyone know what could I do? Someone have the same problem? If necessary I could change my linux version and even distribution. Any idea?
Thanks a lot,
John

what do the following commands return?

iwconfig
ifconfig
route -n

Do you have an access point, or another wireless pc, or what?

I reckon the problem is not the netwotk interface. I have an 'Ad Hoc' configuration. We are trying to communicate several PCs, by wireless medium.
Thanx for you interest, mate

Well, you probably already know about the linux-wlan mailing list:
http://lists.linux-wlan.com
You can google for your error messages by entering:
site:lists.linux-wlan.com Tx attempt prior to association
on the search params. (are you certain you're config
is for ad-hoc, not managed/infrastructure?)

I also suspect you've got a fairly simple routing error, which is why I
asked about the output from the commands I mentioned.
(Destination Host Unreachable gives that away). You might
have two interfaces trying to share the same subnet, but I
can't tell. That can be done, but requires extra effort.

If this is not a USB device, you may want to check into
your firmware versions, they may be old, and new firmware often
fixes things. And, again if not USB, there are (at least) two
other drivers to try: hostap and orinoco.

HTH,

Well, ignore my last paragraph. You did say that it was USB, but
I glossed over that bit. I don't know if firmware upgrades for USB
devices has been worked out yet.
