Setting up a working wireless card
I just recently got my ipw2200 card working, but Im unsure how I am supposed to go about connecting to my home network. My ESSID is CorHome. iwconfig brings up the following:
eth1 unassociated ESSID: CorHome Nickname: slackbox Mode: Managed Channel: 6 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00 Bit Rate = 0kb/s RTS thr: off Encryption key: (edited) Security Mode Restricted Power Management: off How do I get this working? I entered all of the appropriate options, but it just wont connect. |
Perhaps your channel is setup incorrectly. Try to figure out the channel of your wireless access point and then use "iwconfig eth1 channel #". Also it looks like you have some sort of security mode set on your access point. I might shut this off get the two to talk to each other then turn security back on again.

Ok, well, I figured out what was wrong. I apparently had to press the Fn key and F2 to enable my wireless card. However, now that I have done that and connected to my home network, a few other hitches have arisen. First, it seems that when I am "using" my wireless connection, my computer slows down to a crawl. If I type a word, it slowly appears 1 letter at a time. Also, another problem is that my link quality appears to be very poor - a 3/100 to be exact. I cant even ping a simple website. I also seem to have a high level of "Missed Beacon", whatever that is...
