Setting up a Wireless Connection

Hey all,

I have a dual-boot partition on my system, with Windows XP and Redhat 9. On my XP, I had configured a wireless network using my DWL-120+ card.

Can anyone decribe the general steps needed to set up a wireless connection on RH9? Currently, there are no 'eth' devices set up, so I guess we got to start from scratch. And remember, I'm a big linux newb...

Thanks

I'm a newbie too but here goes my experiences.

Red Hat 9 already comes with PCMCIA-CS cards services kernel support for most standard chipset wireless cards. I was able to plug in my Compaq WL110 card, run Internet Config Wizard under System Tools and add a wireless connection from the GUI. Add your SSID and configure WEP if necessary. This added eth1 to my setup. Activate your new connection and run ifconfig from a prompt to see if your device shows up. It may be eth1 or wlan0. Do a dhclient to pick up an IP from your AP. I was surfing the Internet through my adsl/AP in less than 10 mins which kinda surprised me since I'd seen some horror stories about wireless setups.

Try this to ensure wireless support is available and to restart after making any config changes.

#service pcmcia restart

PCMCIA services should shut down and restart.

Not sure I can help much more than this.

DWL 120+

Good luck with this adapter .. still trying to find the drivers... I think it uses the TI chip and don't think is supported yet
